How much will Data Recovery or
File Repair cost?
A price / cost
guide for Data Recovery is given below.
Unlike many other data recovery and
file repair firms we keep our pricing
policy as transparent as possible.
The price covers recovery of your
data as it presently exists on your
storage media. This usually means
your recovered data can be opened
by the original application. However
in the rarer cases the data loss results
in file corruption. Unless stated,
price does not included for repair
of corrupt files. If this is necessary
we can discuss your needs after the
data is recovered.
The Data Recovery
Process and Life Expectancy of the
device.
It should also noted that by the time
any data storage item is sent to us
it has almost reached the end of its
life. The recovery procedure normally
marks the last chance of life for
it. The repair procedure is merely
to get the data off the device and
marks the final resting place of the
hard drive / flash memory / usb memory
stick! In any event we would never
recommend re-using any failed/repaired
data storage device. Your data is
simply too important and precious
to risk it.
Precautions
to protect your data during recovery?
We take
a 'belt and braces' approach when
it comes to recovering your data.
If we use any specialist software,
it is verified 'read-only' software,
and we also take the added precaution
of installing a 'data-write blocker'
which physically prevents writing
any data to your disk. This equipment
costs several thousand pounds. Never
let anyone near your data who simply
relies on software alone not to corrupt
or accidentally overwrite your data.
We also only work on 'clones' of your
original data leaving the original
intact in a forensically sound manner.
Not all companies take this additional
step.
Speed of recovery
We understand
that when you have lost your data,
speed of return is essential. You
may have staff waiting to proceed.
The sooner we see the disk the sooner
we can start to advise you of the
likely timescale. Every job is different
and may range from an hour for emailed
corrupt files to several days for
damaged hard drives. We will provide
you regular information throughout
recovery and if required part-ship
data back to you to enable your business
to continue functioning.
Your data privacy
is a priority for us.
We have full non-disclosure
and privacy agreement for any data
recovered to protect your privacy.
We are not interested in the content,
only getting the data off your hard
drive CD, DVD, or memory card.
Returning your recovered
data or repaired file.
The data will be
given to you on either DVD, CD, Email,
or another hard drive. You choose!
Note we supply hard drives for those
that require their data back on a
hard drive, and we would be pleased
to quote you the additional cost of
this based on the size of hard drive
and your personal requirements.

We are presently spending
a lot of research time overcoming
the 'Hard Drive not recognised in
BIOS' particularly for the Fujitsu
Hard drive. This an been largerly
attributed to the Cirrus logic chip
on the controller board for a faulty
batch of the hard drive produced during
2002. MPG3 and MPF3 series are particularly
affected.
The problems with this Hard Drive
are currently expected to peak over
2004/2005 and so we would recommend
having a good data backup procedure
in place, or perhaps moving critical
data to an alternative drive.

| Hitachi Perpendicular Data Storage Technology |
| 25/03/2007, Register.co.uk |
|
Hitachi achieves industry-leading areal densities via Perpendicular Recording. That probably does not mean a lot to you! Seagate, Hitachi and Toshiba have all worked on this technology for some time, and cross-own the patents on it, according to Rob Pait, Seagate's director of consumer storage marketing.
It basically means they have found a way to pack approximately 10 times the hard drive capacity on to the same size disk. I know what you are thinking… wow that’s great but my computer is still the size of the waste bin so why would I be interested. The target hard drives will be used in MP3 music players, mobile phones, cars, handheld computers, personal video recorders (PVRs).

The cards, offered in 32-megabyte, 50-picture capacities, are aimed at consumers who are transitioning from film-based cameras to digital photography or who want the simplicity of storing their images without downloading to a computer or saving to an optical disc. The first cards shipped will be the popular SD and CompactFlash formats, followed later in the year by other cards and capacities, including Memory Stick PRO.

Western Digital have announced an enhancement to their WD Caviar® family of hard drives, which have significantly lower opertaing temperatures. Rotating at 7,200 RPM in capacities up to 320 GB, and offering either the EIDE or Serial ATA interfaces, the new WD Caviar products are available now in the distribution

| Standard tries to unlock USB keys' potential |
| 10/01/2007, CNET News.com |
|
A standard for application hosting on USB drives has been created by a Californian company and is already being backed by software makers
Who needs to carry a laptop, when you can store all of your data and applications on a pocket-size USB flash drive? Two companies are launching an effort to answer that question this week.
M-Systems and SanDisk on Friday launched an effort the two companies say will define new hardware and software specifications for USB flash drives, the tiny storage devices used by many consumers to plug into a PC's USB port to back up files or shuttle them between devices. The new specifications would create a standard method for allowing the drives to host applications and data. The companies announced the effort, dubbed U3, at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

| 20/12/2006, |
|
We are seeing an increasing number of corrupt DVDs and films from the new wave of camcorders designed to record the movie direct onto the mini dvd format.
The problem seems to arise near the end of the DVD. The DVD does not finalise its recording leaving the DVD in an unplayable state and unrecognised by computer. Our experts who have extensive video file knowledge, have now managed to re-build the film & videos so they are again playable on both computer and stand-alone DVD players.
